One that offers a passive earning power would be fabulous wouldn’t it? Your site can earn while you sleep – a 24/7 earner!
Well, you can do it- and you should!
Perhaps you’ve had ideas of creating your super-niche site in the past. Or maybe they’ve just remained as thoughts and not yet got out of the starting blocks. But if you haven’t, here are some tips that may be useful in your quest for that niche that has plenty of dollar signs attached.
Finding a Niche Is Not Always Easy
Creating a niche site can appear to be easy, yet when you get down to it, difficulties seem to abound.
Because not everyone has an open mind as to what they may be good at or know a lot about in order to create that perfect niche.
That’s what a ‘niche‘ is all about. I like to think of it as a ‘real passion’. Your best niche will come from one of your passions or interests.
When you look at it like that, suddenly more of the internet haziness becomes clearer. Writing about something you love and are knowledgeable about will be simpler than writing about stuff you have little or no interest in.
Therefore, does your chosen niche have potential when it comes to being able to earn money from blogging about it? Most niches will work to some extent while others certainly have much more potential.
Know Your Niche Potential
A huge number of websites, this one included are related to the ‘making money‘ niche. I try to show visitors exactly how they can make money on their computers. After all, that is what most of us are trying to do?
Adhering to the make money niche is not necessary, there are millions of other high earning sites with a diverse of niches. There’s room for everyone’s idea – so think about the niche’s potential in a crowded marketplace.
The ability to build a successful site that pulls in over $500 a month is very straight forward, yet many people approach it from the wrong angle and perspective. They have no chance and fall at the first fence!
Yes, there are folks out there who make hundreds of thousands of dollars from rubbish niche sites while selling questionable products. But many have developed savvy skills (not always white hat), i.e. spammy, SEO and technical abilities that we mightn’t have.
So we’ve got to come up with a better way, and especially one that really helps people.
Quick Starting Guide On How To Build a Niche Website – The Niche Itself
Step #1 -Brainstorm niche ideas.
Jot down as many ideas for a niche site as possible, using your passions and interests as a starting point.
Step #2 – Narrow down your choice of niche, based on these criteria:
- Good to have a wide array of products that can be reviewed and discussed.
- A higher price and lower volume is desirable.
- Make sure that there are useful affiliate programs offering good commissions.
- Are people making money through it right now?
- Could you write 100+ articles on the topic with ease?
Step #3: Setup your site using this tutorial.
I recommend building a website using WordPress. The process is simple; the support is excellent, and the results can be fantastic.
Free WP themes are available everywhere but tend to lack the flexibility and functionality of the paid themes. Look around for the best design of theme for your niche – Genesis is my #1 rated framework, followed by Thesis.
Review of the Genesis and Thesis Frameworks, and how they compare against each other.
If you are unsure about the process of setting up a site in WP, there are so many tutorials to guide you. Practice makes perfect!
Step #4: Start your keyword research.
This is an important task that requires patience and perseverance, so using a good keyword tool is vital. Try to find 10 of the best keyword terms to try to rank for. You will then be able to write a blog post targeting each in a separate article.
Step #5: Sign up to affiliate programs related to your niche.
Step #6: Start to create content. Here are a few points to help get you started:
- Write 5 articles, each one choosing a popular item within your niche.
- Then write 5 review articles on 5 of the most popular items in your niche.
- Next write 3 detailed tutorials related to your niche, (How to ______ ).
- And then write 3 posts/articles.
Step #7: Install important WordPress plugins for starters:
- To stop spam comments from damaging your site – install Akismet.
- Improve your SEO – install WordPress SEO by Yoast for all onsite SEO for pages and posts. Pick and choose other plugins that you like or need.
Step #8: Create a list of contacts to share your new site with, such as friends and colleagues.
Step #9: Setup a Google+ account.
Do this to avail of Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools for comprehensive site analysis, as well as being able to sign up for an Adwords and/or Adsense account. Don’t forget to create your Google Plus social sharing page too!
Step #10: Setup social media: Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
Step #11: Create backlinks.
Interact with relevant forums and leave comments on plenty of related blog posts. Click any ‘share‘ and ‘like‘ buttons on social media sites to register your interest.
Remember to build useful links throughout your site linking between pages and posts to related content in articles.
Use affiliate links properly. What I mean by that is, do not link out to affiliate and product sites everywhere on your site. Create product and review landing pages to receive the links, then from those pages, create the outward affiliate links.
Step #12: Sign up to collect email addresses from subscribers.
Best email autoresponder companies are:
Find the one that suits your budget, get the code and add it to your site.
Continue your keyword research and content creation to flesh out your site, not forgetting to build useful and meaningful links for SEO purposes. Be active on your social media channels too.
There you have it, my 12 steps to creating a niche website that has the potential to make you at least $500/month. But, it doesn’t stop there; this is just the beginning!
Does This Process Work?
It takes plenty of action on your part and dedication to succeed, so knuckle down and create lots of great content. Monetize it sensibly with affiliate and product links, and even some Adsense won’t go amiss (don’t overdo the Adsense though!)
This is exactly how to build a niche website the right way – i.e. not spammy that in time should make you in excess of $500 a month.
Really? “Is that all I have to do?” I hear you say.
That’s just about it. However, don’t get me wrong though. You can sum up the process in 12 steps, but it takes a heck of a lot of work with buckets of trial and error.
You’re going to make a consistent income when you can rank well in Google for your selected buying keyword terms. Therefore, spend loads of time doing keyword research, as that is your ticket to ensure that your link building efforts are a success and not wasted on terms with a low monetary benefit.
Don’t get discouraged if it takes several months to see high rankings or even your first dollar, that’s normal.
Every bit of content you create is another jigsaw in this giant linking puzzle which all go toward opening new doors for someone to find you. This is not a fly-by-night project – you’re in it for the long haul!
That said, if you’re prepared to devote more time upfront, in the end you’ll be rewarded with a business and asset that will make you a “passive income” for years to come.
